That was the Future Medicine Science Match!
The Future Medicine Science Match took place on 9 November 2023 as an all-day conference, at the bcc Berlin Congress Center with a network event afterwards.
In addition to the conference programme the participants expected an exclusive lunch talk taking a deep dive on the transformative potential of cell and gene therapies in the battle against cancer. With representatives from administration, science, and industry, we discussed conditions for an innovation-friendly research environment, and how such a framework can be created.
Again the participants voted on their favourite pitch in 2023: The best short presentation of each session of the Future Medicine Science Match was chosen by all attendees live during the event.

One day. 500 participants. Up to 80 renowned experts and newcomers presented innovative concepts and visions in 3-minute short talks, keynotes and debates.
The story continued! The great success of our event series “Future Medicine Science Match”, hosted by Berlin’s leading newspaper Tagesspiegel and Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH), in the past years has inspired us to host it again in 2023.
This year’s conference focused on how an Ecosystem for Innovations in Cell and Gene Therapy can be developed. How can academia, business and society create an environment for innovations? The emphasis was not only be on specific medical topics but also on the challenge of building a suitable frame to fulfil the mission of the BIH: turning research into health.
In four vibrant sessions we focused on:
- Societal and medical need: new gene- and cell-based therapies
- Cooperation of academia and industry
- Building startups
- Venture creation and commercialisation of discoveries: best practice models
- National strategy for cell and gene therapy
